Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo is a bhikṣuṇī in the Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism and one of the first Westerners to be ordained as a nun in a Tibetan tradition. The book, Cave in the Snow, describes Jetsunma’s twelve years of practice in a remote Himalayan cave. She founded Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery, which today provides educational and spiritual instruction to more than 100 nuns. Jetsunma has worked for decades to provide equal access to conditions for spiritual practice for Buddhist women, including serving as President of Sakyadhita International Association of Buddhist Women. She is also the author of Into the Heart of Life; Reflections on a Mountain Lake: Teachings on Practical Buddhism; and The Heroic Heart: Awakening Unbound Compassion.
