Uzi Selcer began meditating after a course on MBSR for physicians about 25 years ago. This led to an interest in the Buddhist basis of mindfulness practices and a dedicated study of early Buddhist teachings. Uzi had the good fortune to sit several in-person retreats with Bhikkhu Analayo, including a month-long retreat at the Forest Refuge on early Buddhist meditation practices and a retreat at BCBS on the Brahmaviharas and emptiness. Uzi has been a physician for 35 years and feels his medical practice has greatly benefitted from the application of many mindfulness-based practices in daily life and the workplace. For the last 14 years, Uzi has been a facilitator of the weekly meditation program for inmates at the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. He has also assisted in teaching courses in Spanish based on Bhikkhu Analayo’s courses on Anapanasati and Brahmaviharas and Emptiness.
