Satipaṭṭhāna Meditation with Bhikkhu Anālayo

Bhikkhu Anālayo’s genius is, in part, to [analyze] the terse, sometimes obscure language of the Buddha’s discourses and reveal them as fresh, practical guidance for contemporary meditators.

-Guy Armstrong

Satipaṭṭhāna meditation is the Buddha’s foundational teaching on mindfulness. Commonly called the four establishments or the four foundations of mindfulness, its contemplations explore the nature of body, feeling-tone, mind, and dharmas.

In this freely offered series of seven audio meditations, Bhikkhu Anālayo provides sequential guided instructions for satipaṭṭhāna meditation, based on academic research and practice instructions as presented in his text – Satipaṭṭhāna Meditation: A Practice Guide (Windhorse Publications, 2018).

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your practice and generosity.

An unusual aspect of Anālayo’s work is the combination of precision and openness, highlighting the specificity of particular practices and, at the same time, recognizing that there are many different meditative techniques and approaches. Anālayo continually reminds us to test all the suggestions and to see what works best for each one of us, so that we may all, in the words of the Satipaṭṭhāna-sutta, “dwell independently without clinging to anything in the world”.
