Join Dr. Jud Brewer and Dr. Robin Boudette for an immersive weekend workshop that trains facilitators in using inquiry to facilitate the 3 Gears Method for behavior change. Grounded in both Buddhist psychology and modern science, this approach helps individuals recognize and transform unhealthy habits—such as stress eating, smoking, or constant worrying—by illuminating the underlying psychological processes at play. The 3 Gears framework provides a structured way to understand habit formation, evaluate the reward value of behaviors, and adopt healthier patterns through awareness and curiosity.
While you will gain a solid grounding in each “gear,” this training primarily centers on mindful inquiry—a curiosity-driven process that explores thoughts, feelings, and experiences with compassion. Rather than focusing on educating or explaining, you’ll learn to ask clarifying questions about a client’s direct experience, listen for key elements of the habit loop, and empower them to build deeper awareness, discover insights, and foster meaningful change in a non-directive way.
Who Should Attend
Designed for healthcare professionals (physicians, psychotherapists, psychologists, health coaches, and more) and mindfulness instructors with a foundational background in mindfulness, this workshop provides tools to integrate mindfulness-based behavior change into individual or group settings.
By the end of the weekend, you will have a practical understanding of the 3 Gears Method, as well as the mindful inquiry skills needed to effectively help others transform unwanted habits into healthy, supportive behaviors.
Program Format: A combination of talks, guided inquiry, small group and dyadic inquiry, large group discussions.
