Please join us in celebrating the launch of Women in the Buddha’s Life, a website with stories and resources to engage them deeply. This conversation with the team who translated the stories and crafted the resources, will be moderated by BCBS Director of Studies, William Edelglass.
Stories of both well-known and unfamiliar women who were part of the Buddha’s life, including his wife, his birth mother, his adoptive mother as well as disciples, are found on the website. In sharing these stories, the website aims to invite and support renewed and sustained attention to women’s voices and their dimensions of practice within the Buddhist heritage that all of us can learn from today.
Each story is accompanied by additional resources for study, practice, and reflection. An especially important part of the website is the descriptions of innovative practices for reading these stories, reading practices that can help users of the website to engage deeply and creatively with the stories. These reading practices can be used by individuals on their own as well as in groups formed for reading the stories together.
An online course “Women in the Buddha’s Life: Reading Together,” taught by Georgia Kashnig and beginning in March, will introduce the reading practices described on the website and show how they can be used to explore and illuminate the stories in different ways. More information about Georgia's online course, including how to register, can found at: https://www.buddhistinquiry.org/classes/2025-women-in-the-buddhas-life-reading-together/
