Santikaro Bhikkhu

Santikaro lived for many years as a Buddhist monk in southern Thailand, as a student and translator of Ajahn Buddhadasa. In recent years, his practice has incorporated treatment for and recovery from cancer. Currently, he is exploring how Buddha-Dhamma can aid in confronting and unraveling the racism that pervades our society. He and his wife Jo Marie care for Liberation Park, a Dhamma Refuge in rural southwest Wisconsin. From this base, he teaches Early Buddhism and leads retreats around the Midwest, USA, and internationally, with an emphasis on using the original discourses to think and see more clearly into our post-modern American challenges and biases. His new translation of Ajahn Buddhadasa's teachings on dependent co-arising, Under the Bodhi Tree, was published in 2017.
