Zev York is an improviser—whether on guitar, teaching ecology, writing poetry, or finding the next foothold up a tree—he finds joy in the unexpected and the bizarre web of earthly beings he calls kin. Zev York attended Touching the Earth as a participant in 2022 and as an assistant in 2023 and 2024. Zev grew up in New Haven, CT, and recently graduated from Middlebury College with a joint degree in Religion and Environmental Studies. For their senior work, Zev organized a reforesting project on a main campus quad and wrote about the ongoing extinction of Ash trees and human experiences of death. He feels lucky to be able to return to the relationships he has explored in the land and is doubly thrilled to welcome new folks into the fold.
